SorobonBonaire is one of the best freestyle spots in the world. The great freestylers like Tonky and Taty Frans come from this island. They practice their greatest moves here. And it is not for nothing PWA freestyle competition is held here. This all happens at Sorobon, the spot to be on the island. It is situated at the south-eastern part of the island. The wind comes from the south-eastern direction almost always. There is a bay, the size of 7 football pitches and only separated from the sea by a little sandbank. The biggest part is so shallow you can stand here. I am on the island for internship till January 2005. The airline which took me to Bonaire, let me take my windsurf equipment with me for only 40 euros. The maximum amount of kilos is 23. I had 25 kilo and that was just allowed. The water is of excellent temperature and the wind is very constant, actually always from south-eastern direction. The months September and October seem to be the worst, but I didn’t noticed anything of that. Mostly, the wind increases halfway through the afternoon. And I am talking about 5 or 6 Beaufort then. There are two windsurf rentals centers at Sorobon. The people here are very nice and the equipment rented is of very good quality. Besides there are two little bars where you can enjoy a cocktail. And you might have a chance that you can watch Tonky or Taty or another local hero, because they are here always. Before I came here, I had difficulties with jumping, but here it went easily. You just try everything here, because it doesn’t matter if you fall into the water, the temperature is so nice! Transport is not a problem. I don’t have a car myself, but without a car it is almost impossible to come to the spot, because it is so out of the way. But you will make friends here easily, so you can rent a car together or they can bring you to the spot. And remember, everything is relaxed here…
