This place has the second biggest tidal shifts in the world! Turnagain refers to this cove near Anchorage Alaska, named and discovered by Captain Cook as he tried to find a northwest passage between the Pacific and Atlantic oceans - he had to turn around...again. Of course this launch is best sailed in the summer time when the water temperature can reach about 65 degrees, outside of summer can be risky if you are forced to bail and spend too much time in cold water. When the tide comes in there is flat water near the beach and huge ramps about a mile or two out...with sailors regularly using 4.0 to 5.0 in Gorge-like conditions!
